Men's Basketball Drops Pair on Road Trip

NEW LONDON, Conn.—In the team's first road games of the new year, Sarah Lawrence College men's basketball dropped a pair of road games in non-conference play last weekend. On Saturday, the Gryphons were defeated by Fisher College (Mass.), 94-68, and on Sunday, SLC was bettered by U.S. Coast Guard Academy, 67-53.

On Saturday, Fisher (9-12) opened up a quick lead and led by double-digits, 16-4, after five minutes. The Falcons remained in firm control, and carried a 47-27 advantage into halftime.

Sarah Lawrence (5-10) stemmed the tide in the second half, as the Gryphons were outscored by just six points, 47-41, while Fisher solidified the 94-68 win.

Reigning Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week Stevan Radosavljevic (Lazarevac, Serbia/Grammar School Lazarevac) led all players with a season-high 26 points and 14 rebounds in the game. Rookie Graham Gilleran (San Francisco, Calif./Archbishop Riordan) reached double-figures with 14 points, while classmate Wyatt Rocheleau (San Jose, Calif./Christopher) added 13 points.

Four Falcons scored in double figures, led by O.J. Moore with 16 points.

Against Coast Guard (4-11), the Gryphons opened up a 5-0 lead to start the game. SLC kept the game close, hanging within one point at 17-16 after 12 minutes of play. The Bears built momentum to close the opening half, using a 15-4 run to propel the hosts to a 32-20 lead at the break.

Five minutes into the second half, Coast Guard notched its largest lead at 41-25. From there, the Green and White chipped away at the deficit, and a three-pointer by captain Josh Niebloom (Livingston, N.J./Golda Och Academy) cut the gap to single digits, 61-53, with just over a minute to play. In the end, the Bears made six-straight free throws to ice the game, and SLC was dismissed, 67-53.

Gilleran led SLC with 14 points and added three blocks, giving him a HVIAC-best 32 rejections on the season. Radosavljevic posted 12 points and a game-high 16 rebounds for his 10th double-double of the season. Niebloom and rookie Brendan O'Connell (Andover, Mass./Phillips Academy Andover) each contributed nine points in the loss.

Coast Guard's Ricky Rodriguez led all players with 16 points.

Sarah Lawrence returns home to begin its HVIAC season this week. The Gryphons host The King's College on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., and SLC will take on Culinary Institute of America on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Campbell Sports Center.
