Risica, Harley Sweep HVIAC Swimming Awards

NEW YORK—Sarah Lawrence College women's swimmers Gabby Risica (Narragansett, R.I./Narragansett) and Colette Harley (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) have been selected as Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Swimming Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week for the period ending Jan. 19, as announced by the league on Tuesday.

The accolades mark seven weeks this season in which Gryphon swimmers have swept the HVIAC's weekly awards.

Risica won all three of her races to lead the Gryphons in a 52-41 win over St. Joseph's College Brooklyn. After anchoring the opening 200-yard medley relay, she picked up individual wins in both sprint events, capturing first place in the 50-yard freestyle (28.06) and 100-yard freestyle (1:02.67). A two-time Rookie of the Week, Risica earns Player of the Week honors for the first time this season.

Harley earns Rookie of the Week honors for the third time this season, winning two races to help the Gryphons to their 10th straight conference victory. She began the meet by swimming the butterfly leg of the winning SLC medley relay (2:09.38). Later, Harley she won the 100-yard butterfly (1:07.34) by a 21-second margin and rounded out her day with the second-fastest swim in the 500-yard freestyle (6:09.37).
