Men's Swimming Falls to CSI in Final Dual

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.—
In the team's final dual meet of the season, Sarah Lawrence College men's swimming was defeated by College of Staten Island, 152-70, at the CSI Sports & Recreation Center on Saturday.

Though Sarah Lawrence (4-3) ended the year on a loss, the Gryphons posted the first winning season in the short history of the young varsity program.

Staten Island (7-3) cruised to victory by winning 11 of 13 events.

SLC Sophomore Cameron Martinez (Aledo, Texas/Aledo) picked up a win in the 200 yard freestyle, posting a time of 1:49.32. In the 100 butterfly, he was relegated to second-place after being edged by 0.18 second.

Jack Chu (Hong Kong/Irvington (Calif.)) added the Gryphons' other victory on the day. The rookie won the 100 yard freestyle in 52.08 seconds, more than three seconds faster than his closest opponent. He also finished as runner-up in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:09.86).

Other second-place performances included Doug Rubenstein (Los Angeles, Calif./Hamilton) (25.93) in the 50 free and Owen Marks (Pittsfield, Mass./Pittsfield) (7:02.99) in the 500 yard freestyle.

Gryphons Martinez, Chu, Rubenstein and Jericho Walker-Roberts (Ashland, Ore./Ashland) ended the day with a second-place finish in the 200 yard free relay (1:39.30).

Sarah Lawrence men's swimming next competes at its final regular-season meet, the Vassar Invitational on Feb. 2. The Gryphons then prepare for the 2014 UNYSCSA Championships, to be held Feb. 19-22, at Ithaca College.
