Men's Basketball Falls in Maritime Rematch

Box Score
BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—After the Gryphons rallied from a 19 point deficit to pull within three points, Sarah Lawrence College men's basketball was ultimately upended by Maritime College, 75-67, in a non-conference game at Noyes Court at Campbell Sports Center on Tuesday.

The two teams previously met in the Gryphons' season opener, an 82-52 Maritime victory on November 15.

For Sarah Lawrence (4-6), captain Josh Niebloom (Livingston, N.J./Golda Och Academy) sank a three-pointer on the team's first possession scoring the Gryphons' first points since their previous game on December 15. Backed by another trey by Niebloom and a pair of layups by Stevan Radosavljevic (Lazarevac, Serbia/Grammar School Lazarevac), the Green and White took control of the game early. Five minutes in, rookie Wyatt Rocheleau (San Jose, Calif./Christopher) pocketed a three-point basket to give SLC a 13-8 edge—the Gryphons' largest lead in the game.

Maritime (3-7) stormed back with a 12-0 run, putting the Privateers in front, 20-13. The visitors held SLC to 8-for-34 shooting from the floor while accruing a 12-point lead at 31-19 before taking a 32-23 advantage into halftime.

The Gryphon deficit ballooned to 19 points at 51-32 after five and a half minutes in the second half. Trailing 59-41 midway through the period, SLC was reignited by a fast-break three pointer from Rocheleau to spark a 6-0 run.

With 3.5 minutes to play, Maritime still held a double-digit lead, 69-57. Sarah Lawrence built momentum with a Niebloom jumper and three-point play by Radosavljevic. Mat Gerak (Monroe, Conn./Masuk) got into the action and Radosavljevic tipped in a rebound to round out a 69-66 that put the Gryphons within three points.

Though the Green and White got their chances, the Privateers were able to hold strong down the stretch, converting on their next three possessions. SLC's final three shots were off-target, allowing Maritime to escape with the 75-67 win.

Radosavljevic led the Gryphons with 18 points and 20 rebounds for his seventh double-double of the season and sixth in the last seven games. He also became the first Gryphon to hit 20 rebounds in the program's NCAA era.

Niebloom followed with 17 points, including 11 in the second half. Rocheleau tallied 11 points and four assists in the game, while Graham Gilleran (San Francisco, Calif./Archbishop Riordan) also hit double figures with 10 points and nine rebounds.

For Maritime, Sean Corley led all players with 25 points while collecting a team-best 10 rebounds. T'Vaughn Gibson scored 18 points, and Tim McNamara posted 11 points.

Sarah Lawrence hosts Alfred State University, SUNY-ESF and SUNY-IT in the SLC Basketball Tournament this weekend. Action tips off at 6 and 8 p.m. on Friday and concludes with games at Noon and 2 p.m. on Saturday.
