Box Score PURCHASE, N.Y.—Sarah Lawrence College men's soccer took on Purchase College in a Skyline Conference game at PC Soccer Field on Tuesday. After the game was halted in the 72nd minute due to lightning, the contest was eventually declared final—a 5-0 win for Purchase.
Before the game, SLC seniors
Ishaan Pujari (Bangalore, India/Inventure Academy) and
Jeff Bernstein (Los Angeles, Calif./Buckley School) were recognized for their contributions to the Gryphons men's soccer program. Pujari, a four-year player and two-time all-conference selection, is SLC's reining leader in goals, assists, points and shots. Bernstein is an academic all-conference honoree and has played 14 games in the past two seasons.
Sarah Lawrence (2-12, 0-7 Skyline) was held without a shot in the first half. Forwards Pujari and
Finn MacMillan (London, U.K./Bryanston) made some deep runs but were unable to pull the trigger. Rookie
Varun Kelkar (Nagpur, India/Jenks) also helped to push the offense from the midfield.
In the second half, SLC rookie
Tahmid Munat (Dhaka, Bangladesh/Notre Dame) put the first shot in the book for the Green and White, redirecting a free kick by classmate
Alix Legrand (Damascus, Pa./Scranton Prep).
Pujari also recorded a shot in the period, firing from the left corner and sending the ball just over the frame.
After posting three goals in the first period, Purchase (7-7-1, 4-2-1 Skyline) put away a penalty kick early in the second half and another score in the 62nd minute, sealing the shutout victory.
In goal, SLC's
James Berry (New York, N.Y./Kent) tallied eight saves, while PC keeper Esteban Aguilar earned the win.
Sarah Lawrence wraps up the 2014 campaign with a pair of Skyline road games. The Gryphons travel to play Yeshiva at Fairleigh Dickinson on Thursday before concluding the year at Maritime on Tuesday.
