Box Score TEANECK, N.J.—In the team's penultimate contest of 2014, Sarah Lawrence College men's soccer was clipped by Yeshiva University, 4-2, in a Skyline Conference game at Fairleigh Dickinson University Soccer Field on Thursday.
Sarah Lawrence (2-13, 0-8 Skyline) fell behind early but narrowed the deficit near the midpoint of the first period. In the 24th minute, senior forward
Ishaan Pujari (Bangalore, India/Inventure Academy) netted his fourth goal of the season to cut the deficit to 2-1. Rookie
Tobias Geisler Mesevage (Ghent, N.Y./Hawthorne Valley Waldorf School) also notched a shot in the first period.
In the second half, the Gryphon offense stepped up the pressure, while the SLC defense held Yeshiva (8-5-1, 2-4-1 Skyline) scoreless in the second half. Rookie
Varun Kelkar (Nagpur, India/Jenks) recorded two shots in the period, while Pujari added two more.
The 73rd minute saw SLC's
Finn MacMillan (London, U.K./Bryanston) score the only goal of the period. Kelkar served up a lead pass that put MacMillan in position to match Pujari with a team-high four goals on the season.
In goal,
James Berry (New York, N.Y./Kent) made four saves in his third-straight complete game.
SLC's two goals were the Gryphons' first against the Maccabees since 2010, following back-to-back shutouts by YU in the '11 and '13 seasons.
Sarah Lawrence concludes its year at Maritime College on Tuesday.
