Cameron Martinez (Aledo, Texas/Aledo) recorded a pair of wins, yet Sarah Lawrence College men's swimming was upended by Skyline opponent Maritime College, 145-56, at Campbell Sports Center on Friday.
Facing an army of Privateers, Sarah Lawrence (1-3, 1-2 Skyline) won only three events, while defending Skyline champion Maritime (5-1, 3-0 Skyline) won eight events.
Maritime jumped out to a nearly insurmountable lead by winning the first four events of the meet.
Skyline Rookie of the Week
Albert Riley (Long Beach, Calif./Wilson) was edged out in the 200 yard freestyle, as the Gryphon notched a runner-up swim of 1:57.10.
Sophomore
Jack Chu (Hong Kong/Irvington (Calif.)) was bettered by a quarter second in the 50 freestyle, taking second in 23.03.
Sarah Lawrence finally got its first win as Martinez triumphed in the 200 individual medley. His time of  2:02.37 was a comfortable 15 seconds faster than his closest opponent.
Martinez returned to the water in the next event to post a victory in the 100 butterfly, winning by four seconds with a time of 52.68.
The Privateers put the meet out of reach with sweeps of the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke.
The Gryphons got their final win in the 500 freestyle. After accumulating a nearly six-second lead, Riley avenged his previous loss by holding on to a 0.43 second margin, touching the wall first in 5:19.83.
In the 100 breaststroke, Chu finished as runner-up in the final individual event. The Gryphons rounded out the meet with third place in the 200 freestyle relay.
Sarah Lawrence returns to action when the Gryphons travel to the Drew University Ranger Invitational, Dec. 5-7.
