NEW YORK—For the third time this season, Sarah Lawrence College student-athletes have swept all four weekly swimming awards from the Skyline, as announced by the league on Monday.
Gabby Risica (Narragansett, R.I./Narragansett) and
Cameron Martinez (Aledo, Texas/Aledo) were named Women's and Men's Swimmers of the Week, while
Hannah Lawson (Portland, Ore./Pacific Crest Community School) and
Brendan McAlevy (Fairfax, Va./Paul VI Catholic) were tabbed Women's and Men's Rookies of the Week. SLC previously swept the four awards on Nov. 24 and Dec. 8.
Risica earned her first Skyline Swimmer of the Week selection after leading the SLC women to wins over Purchase College and Bard College in last Saturday's double-dual. The sophomore placed first in both the 50-yard freestyle (28.21) and 100-yard freestyle (1:03.89) events, as the Gryphons touched the wall first in nine of 11 events. Risica also swam a leg on the winning 200-yard medley relay (2:06.20) and has the team's fastest 50 free (27.11 on Nov. 15) of the semester.
Lawson was named Rookie of the Week for the fifth time this season after winning three races in Saturday's meet. The rookie won both of her individual events, each by at least four seconds, as she registered winning times in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:20.02) and 200-yard individual medley (2:31.68). Lawson also joined Risica on the winning 200-yard medley relay (2:06.20).
On the men's side, Martinez collected his fifth Swimmer of the Week honors of the season following two individual wins, helping the Gryphons to defeat Bard. The junior notched wins in both the 100-yard butterfly (53.70) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.74) events. Martinez also swam a leg on the Gryphons' 200-yard medley relay that finished second in a time of 1:56.42.
McAlevy earned his first Rookie of the Week honors after finishing third in the 100-yard backstroke (1:16.86) and fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (26.81) in Saturday's double-dual. His 50 free time was a collegiate career best. McAlevy also swam a leg on the Gryphons' runner-up 200 medley relay.
Both swimming squads return to action in their home finale on January 17 against College of Staten Island.
