BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—Sarah Lawrence College men's volleyball was swept by Fontbonne University and Pratt Institute, 3-0, in non-conference matches at Noyes Court at Campbell Sports Center on Sunday.
Sarah Lawrence (0-7) is still seeking its first win, while Fontbonne (6-3) rounds out a 6-0 road trip to the Big Apple. Playing its first matches as a varsity program, Pratt (1-1) split its historic first day of competition.
Against Sarah Lawrence, Fontbonne's Brendan Keller served up 24 straight points, including four service aces, to give the visiting Griffins a 25-1 set. Fontbonne held SLC to just five kills in the match while rounding out the second and third sets, 25-3 and 25-8.
Fontbonne's Aaron Graue landed 20 kills in the match with five service aces. Keller finished the match with seven aces, while setter Justin Winkelmann notched 18 assists, and Dominic Prospero assisted 10 kills.
In the intervening match, Fontbonne put away Pratt, 25-12, 25-11, 25-10, in the Cannoneer's first match of the newly-formed varsity program.
SLC found itself trailing early to Pratt, 13-6. The Gryphons were able to close the gap, but Pratt rebounded to take the opening set, 25-18.
The team's played back-and-forth volleyball in the second set, drawing 10 tie scores. The Cannoneers pulled away late, winning eight of the last nine points of the 25-17 set. In the final set, Pratt clinched its first victory, 25-10.
Pratt's David Cutler led the match with 14 kills and 10 digs. Setter Chris Fantin notched 20 assists and eight service aces.
For SLC, junior
Ishaan Pujari (Bangalore, India/Inventure Academy) paced the Gryphons with eight kills against Pratt and 10 spikes on the day. Rookie
Derek Komar (Stormville, N.Y./John Jay) landed seven kills on the day, while senior
Brent Terry (Crownpoint, N.M./Idyllwild Arts Academy) recorded a double-double on 11 assists and 10 digs in the latter match.
Sarah Lawrence returns to its home court on Wednesday when the Gryphons host Albertus Magnus College on Noyes Court at 7 p.m.
