Men's Volleyball Downed by Albertus Magnus

BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—Sarah Lawrence College men's volleyball was defeated by Albertus Magnus College, 3-0, in a non-conference match at Noyes Court at Campbell Sports Center on Wednesday.

Sarah Lawrence (0-9) is still seeking its first win, while Albertus Magnus (4-0) remains undefeated on the season.

In the opening set, AMC took quick control of the match, while the Gryphons were held to only one offensive point in the 25-8 set. An 8-1 Falcon run put SLC in a hole midway through the second set. SLC junior Ishaan Pujari (Bangalore, India/Inventure Academy) notched three service aces late in the set, but Albertus Magnus earned the 25-18 win.

Sophomore Alex Carroll (Boston, Mass./Homeschooled) landed a kill to cap off a 5-0 Gryphon run that gave SLC its first lead, 5-4, in the third set. Though Pujari tallied four kills in the set, AMC struck back with a 9-1 rally, and the Green and White were soon dismissed, 25-13.

Pujari finished with match highs of eight kills and seven digs. Senior setter Brent Terry (Crownpoint, N.M./Idyllwild Arts Academy) added 11 assists and five digs, while Carroll put away three kills.

For Albertus Magnus, Chase Brinton led the Falcons with seven kills, while Raymond Torres totaled 11 assists and six digs. Torres and Ben Spilka each contributed five service aces.

Sarah Lawrence men's volleyball returns to action this weekend at the Bard Raptors Men's Volleyball Tournament. The Gryphons will face Bard College and Wells College on Friday before playing their final round match on Saturday.
