Men’s Volleyball Falls to Yeshiva in HVIAC Opener

Box Score
NEW YORK, N.Y.—In the team's first league match of the season, Sarah Lawrence College men's volleyball fell to Yeshiva University, 25-12, 25-19, 25-14, in a Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match at Max Stern Athletic Center on Tuesday.

Sarah Lawrence (0-13, 0-1 HVIAC) got off to a slow start, as the Gryphons recorded just three kills in the first set. Yeshiva (1-5, 1-0 HVIAC) gained momentum en route to a 25-12 win.

In the second set, SLC recovered from an early seven-point deficit and closed the gap to just two at 13-11. The Green and White rally fell short, however, and SLC never erased the Maccabee lead while YU closed the set, 25-19.

After the teams split the first six points of the third set, Yeshiva mounted an 11-2 rally and held a double-digit lead to clinch the match, 25-14.

SLC's Ishaan Pujari (Bangalore, India/Inventure Academy) led the Gryphon attack with nine kills, while sophomore Cameron Martinez (Aledo, Texas/Aledo) landed a career-high five kills. Senior setter Brent Terry (Crownpoint, N.M./Idyllwild Arts Academy) assisted a season-high 15 points. On defense, Pujari led the Green and White with four digs, followed by three from Amit Sankaran (San Francisco, Calif./Mallya Aditi International).

Yeshiva's Menachem Goldstein led the match with 13 kills, while Adam Rhodes posted 28 assists, and both Mishael Miller and Jorge Dabah shared a match-high six digs.

Sarah Lawrence is on the road again Thursday when the Gryphons travel to face NYU-Poly at 7 p.m. The Gryphons then return home to face York College (N.Y.) and Cooper Union in a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
