BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—Despite a season-high 12 kills by junior Gryphon
Ishaan Pujari (Bangalore, India/Inventure Academy), Sarah Lawrence College men's volleyball was defeated by Lehman College, 3-0, in a non-conference match at Noyes Court at Campbell Sports Center on Tuesday.
Sarah Lawrence (0-3) struggled in the first set, landing only two kills, while Lehman (3-0) threw down 10 spikes en route to a 25-9 win.
Pujari recorded five of his kills in the second set, but a 7-0 Lightning run early in the set put the Gryphons in an early hole. A 10-2 run gave Lehman a 20-7 advantage, and the visitors won the second set, 25-12.
In the third set, Pujari added another five kills, while sophomore
Cameron Martinez (Aledo, Texas/Aledo) converted on three attacks. Lehman, however, tallied 11 unanswered points early in the set, and the Green and White failed to recover, falling 25-16.
Behind Pujari's 12 kills, Martinez finished the day with four. Senior setter
Brent Terry (Crownpoint, N.M./Idyllwild Arts Academy) notched 13 assists, while Pujari anchored the defense with a match-high seven digs.
On Lehman's side of the net, Jaleel Lino totaled 15 kills, while Miguel Gallardo contributed eight kills and seven service aces. Setter Roberto Perez assisted 18 points, and Ramon Jimenez had a team-high five digs.
Sarah Lawrence rounds out the week with two home matches. The Gryphons host College of Mount Saint Vincent on Friday at 7 p.m. before taking on Cooper Union on Saturday at noon.
