HYDE PARK, N.Y.—The Gryphons got their first taste of victory as Sarah Lawrence College men's volleyball defeated Culinary Institute of America, 3-0, in a club exhibition at CIA Student Recreation Center on Saturday.
SLC's opening set was mired in double-digit errors, but the Gryphon attack held firm to pick up a 25-21 win. Junior
Ishaan Pujari (Bangalore, India/Inventure Academy) and sophomore
Cameron Martinez (Aledo, Texas/Aledo) each posted three kills in the set.
Despite 13 kills, the Green and White were unable to pull away from the Steels in the second set. After several hard-fought points, SLC finally edged CIA, 30-28. Pujari had seven kills while Martinez landed five spikes in the set.
The third set again saw Sarah Lawrence on top, and the Gryphons closed out the sweep, 25-21. Pujari notched four more kills to finish with a match-high 14. Martinez tallied three kills in the final set for a season-best 11 kills.

Nikos Efstratudakis (London, Ontario/American Community School of Athens) totaled 14 assists while lifting four digs on defense. Senior libero
Brent Terry (Crownpoint, N.M./Idyllwild Arts Academy) led the match with 10 digs, while Martinez pitched in seven.
Sarah Lawrence returns to action on Monday, when the Gryphons travel to College of Mount Saint Vincent at 7 p.m. The Gryphons then take two weeks off before their home finale against Webb Institute on Tues., April 1.
