RIVERDALE, N.Y.—In the teams' second meeting of the season, Sarah Lawrence College men's volleyball was bettered by College of Mount Saint Vincent, 3-0, in a non-conference match at the Peter Jay Sharp Center on Monday.
Mount Saint Vincent (9-5) ran away with the opening set, 25-13, before Sarah Lawrence (0-22) its first lead of the match at 3-2 in the second set. Though junior
Ishaan Pujari (Bangalore, India/Inventure Academy) landed three kills in the set, the Gryphon attack had trouble gaining momentum, and the Dolphins won the second set, 25-14.
The third set saw SLC take a short-lived lead at 6-3, but CMSV responded with seven straight points and cruised to a 25-16 set to clinch the sweep.
Pujari led the Green and White with eight kills and six digs. Rookie setter
Nikos Efstratudakis (London, Ontario/American Community School of Athens) tallied 12 assists, while sophomore
Cameron Martinez (Aledo, Texas/Aledo) notched four kills and five digs. Rookie
Jacob Zhu (Shanghai, China/Shanghai Jianping) had two digs and recorded his first career service ace.
Monday's loss follows SLC's 3-0 loss to CMSV (25-7, 25-11, 25-17) on Feb. 7.
Sarah Lawrence is inactive for two weeks for its spring-break holiday. The Gryphons host Webb Institute in their home finale on April 1 and travel to St. Joseph's College Brooklyn for their regular-season finale on April 3. SLC concludes the season at the 2014 HVIAC Men's Volleyball Championship, hosted by Yeshiva University on April 10.
