BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—Sarah Lawrence College men's volleyball was defeated by College of Staten Island, 3-1, in a club exhibition at Noyes Court at Campbell Sports Center on Saturday.
Staten Island broke open a 12-4 lead to start the match, and despite three kills from SLC junior
Ishaan Pujari (Bangalore, India/Inventure Academy), the Dolphins came away with a 25-21 opening set. The visitors' momentum carried into the second set, as CSI took a 2-0 lead in the match with a 25-10 win.
In the third set, the Gryphons capitalized on 16 CSI errors. Pujari landed a pair of kills, while rookie
Alex Carroll (Boston, Mass./Homeschooled) notched two service aces. Pujari and Caroll split a block in the set, and Sarah Lawrence came out on top, 25-23.
The fourth set saw the teams duel to a 17-17 deadlock, but a late 5-0 Staten Island run spelled doom for the Green and White, and Staten Island picked up the 25-22 victory.
Pujari finished the match with a team-high eight kills while leading all players with 14 digs. Senior
Luc Mitchell (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) tallied a pair of kills, while senior setter
Brent Terry (Crownpoint, N.M./Idyllwild Arts Academy) posted two kills, nine assists and six digs.
