Box Score NEW YORK, N.Y.—Though the Gryphons scored three goals for the second straight game, Sarah Lawrence College men's soccer was tripped up by Medgar Evers College, 4-3, in a non-conference game at Randall's Island Park on Friday.
Sarah Lawrence (0-2) was first on the scoreboard when rookie
Finn MacMillan (London, U.K./Bryanston) scored his second goal of the season in the 15th minute. First year
Varun Kelkar (Nagpur, India/Jenks) fed a ball up the side of the field, giving MacMillan the opportunity to find the bottom corner of the net for a 1-0 edge.
Less than six minutes later, rookie
Lucas Simoes (Sao Paulo/Colégio Objetivo) stole the ball from the Cougar defense and netted the ball with a 10-yard shot to double the lead to 2-0.
With the Gryphons' momentum rolling, the 28th minute saw sophomore
Roland Wynter (New York, N.Y./Lower Manhattan Arts Academy) score in his first appearance of the season. Junior
Juan Sucre (Caracas, Venezuela/ASFM (Monterrey, Mexico)) sent a long entry pass from the backfield that found Wynter in the box in position for a short goal.
Trailing 3-0, Medgar Evers (1-1) got offensive strength from a goal in the final minute of the first half, sending the teams into the break with the Green and White on top, 3-1.
MEC put another goal on the board in the 56th minute, trimming the gap to 3-2. The final five minutes proved fateful, when the Cougars scored back-to-back goals to clinch the 4-3 victory. SLC was held without a shot on goal in the second half.
For Sarah Lawrence,
Tahmid Munat (Dhaka, Bangladesh/Notre Dame) put two shots on goal while Wynter finished with a pair of shots. In goal, rookie
