Box Score NEW YORK—In the Gryphons' first-ever Skyline Conference game, Sarah Lawrence College men's soccer was shutout by SUNY College at Old Westbury, 5-0, at Randall's Island Park on Saturday evening.
Sarah Lawrence (0-4, 0-1 Skyline) posted the first shot of the game in the first minute. Rookie
Lucas Simoes (Sao Paulo/Colégio Objetivo) fired a kick from the left side that was stopped by OW keeper Kelvin Rivera.
Senior
Ishaan Pujari (Bangalore, India/Inventure Academy) also recorded a shot in the half. Driving down the middle, the forward's kick nearly evaded the Panther goalkeeper, but the effort was corralled.
Old Westbury (5-3, 1-1 Skyline) got on the scoreboard in the fifth minute. Dominick Guidice found the back of the net from 15 yards on a crossing pass from Anthony Echevarria. Guidice went on to score again in the half, this time assisted by Jorge Rodriguez, and the Panthers led 2-0 at halftime.
Guidice went on to assist the third goal of the game, scored by Brian Schanel in the 54th minute.
SLC was held to one shot in the second half. A close-range header by sophomore
Roland Wynter (New York, N.Y./Lower Manhattan Arts Academy) barely missed the left post, drifting wide of the net.
OW's Michael Covas scored his first goal of the season in the 72nd minute, assisted by Echevarria. Rodriguez tallied the final goal, finding the back of the net on an 80th-minute free kick from 30 yards.
For SLC, goalkeepers
James Berry (New York, N.Y./Kent) and
Nikos Efstratudakis (London, Ontario/American Community School of Athens) tallied two saves each in split duty. OW's Rivera got the win with three saves on the day.
Despite the five goals yielded, OW's 18 shots is the lowest total for an SLC opponent this season.
Sarah Lawrence will host non-conference opponent The King's College (N.Y.) on Wednesday. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. at Vikings Stadium in Valhalla.
