Box Score BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—While the Gryphons outscored the Dolphins by eight points in the second half, Sarah Lawrence College was unable to overcome a deficit to College of Mount Saint Vincent, as CMSV left with a 77-62 win in Skyline action at Noyes Court at Campbell Sports Center on Saturday.
Sarah Lawrence (1-14, 0-9 Skyline) trailed by as many as 25 points but went on a 19-6 run late in the second half to cut the gap in half, 71-59. Mount Saint Vincent (11-5, 7-2 Skyline) showed signs of concern but held off the charge, dashing the Gryphons' comeback hopes.
Both defenses proved formidable early, as only 11 points combined were scored in the first five minutes of play, resulting in a 7-4 edge for the visitors. Mount Saint Vincent went on a 10-3 run to open up the advantage and went on to lead 48-25 at the half.
SLC held the Dolphins to only eight made field goals in the second half, including 0-11 shooting from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, the Green and White won the half, 37-29, and finished over 40 percent on three-point attempts—the team's second-best percentage in its last 20 games.
For the second-straight game, SLC's
Keith Burns (Belmont, Mass./Belmont) set a new career scoring best. The rookie led the Gryphons with nine points in the first half, coming on a trio of baskets from three-point territory. He added another nine points in the second period to finish with 18. Burns also dished out a career-best five assists.
Sophomore
Jeff Jordan II (Smithfield, Va., Smithfield) caught fire in the second half, making 4-of-5 field goal attempts, including both three-point shots. Jordan totaled 12 points in the period and led all players with 19 in the game. He was also one of three players with a team-high six rebounds.
Sophomore
Brendan O'Connell (Andover, Mass./Phillips Academy Andover) reached double figures for the second time this season and is averaging 8.3 points per game over the last three contests. On Saturday, he put away four field goals for 10 points and led the team with six rebounds and a season-best three steals.
Co-captain
Graham Gilleran (San Francisco, Calif./Archbishop Riordan) rounded out the Gryphons in double-digits, contributing 10 points on the day. He went 4-for-4 on free throws and collected three rebounds at each end of the court for a team-high six total. SLC's career blocks leader, the sophomore swatted two Dolphin shots, eclipsing 60 over the past two seasons.
In limited action,
Glenn Forstner (Great Neck, N.Y./Great Neck South) and
Mat Gerak (Monroe, Conn./Masuk) came off the bench to round out the Green and White scoring.
For CMSV, Ammad Alkhulaidi scored a team-high 16 points with game-highs of nine rebounds and five blocks. Madison Martinez followed with 13 points.
Sarah Lawrence rounds out a four-game home stretch when the Gryphons host Yeshiva University on Wednesday. Action tips off at 7 p.m.
