Box Score BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—The Gryphons held a two-point advantage after 11 minutes of play, but Sarah Lawrence College men's basketball was unable to hold on, while Yeshiva University picked up a 78-57 victory in Skyline action at Noyes Court at Campbell Sports Center on Wednesday.
Sarah Lawrence (1-15, 0-10 Skyline) hung with the Maccabees and erased an early 10-point deficit. After trailing 17-7, the Gryphons went on a 14-2 rally and took the advantage briefly at 21-19. Yeshiva (11-4, 8-2 Skyline) preserved its first-place conference standing, in part, by scoring the next 16 points.
SLC closed the gap back to single digits at 37-29, before YU picked up a 45-29 advantage by the intermission. Holding the visitors to 8-for-21 shooting in the second half, the Green and White kept Yeshiva from pulling away much further, as the Gryphons were outscored narrowly, 33-28, in the second half.
In the first period, captain
Graham Gilleran (San Francisco, Calif./Archbishop Riordan) anchored the offense, playing the full 20 minutes. He went 5-for-9 from the floor and added four free throws for 14 points. The sophomore scored six more in the second half to lead the team and match his career high of 20 points.
After stumbling in a few games, classmate
Stevan Radosavljevic (Lazarevac, Serbia/Grammar School Lazarevac) found his offensive footing, scoring a half dozen in each period. The sophomore finished the day with 12 points, half coming from the charity stripe. Gilleran and Radosavljevic shared a team-high with four rebounds apiece.
Rookie
Ege Ozcan (Istanbul, Turkey/Andrews Osborne Acad. (Ohio)) contributed eight points and three rebounds, while sophomore
Mat Gerak (Monroe, Conn./Masuk) reached his highest scoring output of the month with seven second-half points. Sophomore
Wyatt Rocheleau (San Jose, Calif./Christopher) was held to four points but dished out a season-best five assists.
For Yeshiva, Benjy Ritholtz racked up a game-high 26 points, including 4-for-6 on three-pointers and 8-for-9 from the foul line. Shaje Weiss scored 19 points, followed by Shelby Rosenberg with 15 points and a game-high seven rebounds; both Weiss and Rosenberg were perfect on five free-throw attempts.
Sarah Lawrence hits the road for its next two games. The Gryphons travel to SUNY College at Old Westbury on Saturday before venturing to The Sage Colleges on Monday.
