Tahmid Munat (Dhaka, Bangladesh/Notre Dame). The junior succeed in putting away his second goal of the season, giving SLC a 2-0 edge.
ST. JOSEPH'S RETALIATESSt. Joseph's struck back in the 30th minute. Following a corner kick for the Bears, Sarah Lawrence was whistled for a foul in the box, leading to an SJC penalty kick. Beka Goduadze converted the attempt, the second penalty-kick goal against the Gryphons this season.
THE FINAL 10 MINUTESSarah Lawrence preserved the 2-1 advantage for much of the second half but were unable to hold on until the end. SJC's Cesar Oviedo netted his second goal of the season in the 85th minute, leveling the game at 2-2.
In the 87th minute, junior
Roland Wynter (New York, N.Y./Lower Manhattan Arts Academy) sent a shot into the box that was blocked by a Bears defender. Rookie
Mohamed Camara (Macenta, Guinea/New World) controlled the rebound and found the back of the net for his team-leading fifth goal of the season, getting the Gryphons back on top, 3-2.
With the final seconds waning, SLC was primed to pick up its first Skyline victory. Less than five seconds were left when Goduadze fired a desperation shot that ricocheted off the crossbar and crossed the goal line with one tick left on the clock. The teams were destined for overtime, tied 3-3.
OVERTIMEIn the extra periods, each team totaled four shots, but neither was able to break through for the win. St. Joseph's gained some momentum in the latter period, earning a pair of corner kicks while the Gryphons were called offsides twice. After 20 minutes, the dust settled on the Gryphons' program-record third draw of the season.
