Box Score 3 BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—Sarah Lawrence College women's volleyball faced three opponents in a busy weekend. The Gryphons were swept by non-conference opponent The College of New Rochelle, 3-0, at CNR Wellness center on Friday. Then, on Saturday, SLC was defeated by SUNY College at Old Westbury, 3-1, and St. Joseph's College Long Island, 3-0, in a Skyline tri-match at Noyes Court at Campbell Sports Center.

AGAINST THE BLUE ANGELSSarah Lawrence racked up 14 kills against New Rochelle, but the Gryphons were undone by 30 kills and 24 aces by the host Blue Angels. SLC rookie
Seven Green (Akwesasne/Frank Sinatra Sch. of the Arts) led the team with five kills, followed by junior
Yolanda Lyne Cando (Arlington, Va./H-B Woodlawn) with four; Cando had the team's only service ace in the match. Setter
CJ Kelley (Las Vegas, Nev./Basic) recorded 11 assists in the match, while sophomore
Eleni Spentzouris (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) anchored the defense with eight digs.
GRYPHONS STEAL A SETSLC fared better against Old Westbury, accruing 27 kills and 16 service aces. In the third set, the Gryphons fired off seven straight points, part of a 10-1 run, to build up a 16-7 advantage. Old Westbury closed the gap to 18-14 but a 5-1 response put away the frame for SLC, 25-18.
AGAINST THE PANTHERSKelley led the Gryphons in most statistical categories. Five matches after earning the program's first-ever triple-double, she accomplished the feat again with 12 kills, 11 assists and 10 digs. Kelley also added a block and five aces, halfway to the elusive quadruple-double. Green scored 14 points with seven kills and as many aces. Cando helped the defense with eight digs, and Green tallied six digs.
AGAINST THE GOLDEN EAGLESIn the toughest match of the three, SLC was held without any aces or blocks against St. Joseph's. Green had five kills, followed by junior
Monet Thibou (Brooklyn, N.Y./Elisabeth Irwin) with three kills. Kelley pitched in eight assists, while the defense was divided between Green (four digs), Cando (three) and Kelley (three).
MAKING CONTRIBUTIONSThe Gryphons were also aided by
Marie Richter (Chemnitz, Germany/St. Andrew's School), who contributed two aces, a kill, an assist and seven digs on the weekend.
Helen Song (Shenzhen, China/Shenzhen Foreign Language) started in all three matches, recording a kill and four digs.
UP NEXTThe Gryphons play a pair of tri-matches next weekend. On Saturday, Sarah Lawrence travels to Manhattanville and will also meet Rutgers-Newark. Sunday features a Skyline tri-match with Mount Saint Mary College at Yeshiva University.
