Women’s Volleyball Hosts NJCU Re-Match

BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—In the teams' second meeting of the season, Sarah Lawrence College women's volleyball was defeated by New Jersey City University, 3-0, in a non-conference match at Noyes Court at Campbell Sports Center on Friday.

NJCU (12-15) def. Sarah Lawrence (3-23), 3-0.
25-20, 25-18, 25-17.

MATCH RECAP
In the first set, the match played back-and-forth up until the Gryphons scored three straight points to narrow their deficit to one at 15-14. After that, NJCU scored eight of the next nine points to take an insurmountable lead, 23-15. The second set saw SLC hang within two points at 18-16 before the visitors pulled away.

In the third set, SLC erased a five-point deficit to tie the match at 8-8. NJCU took an 18-10 advantage, but the Gryphons rallied to narrow the gap, 20-17. The Gothic Knights scored five unanswered points to close out the match.

GRYPHON LEADERS
Setter CJ Kelley (Las Vegas, Nev./Basic) led the team with five kills, seven service aces and six assists. Her seven aces are the team's second most this season. Rookie Seven Green (Akwesasne/Frank Sinatra Sch. of the Arts) recorded four kills, two aces, three assists and five digs. Sophomore Eleni Spentzouris (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) tallied a pair of kills, two aces and six digs.

Spentzouris and rookie Helen Song (Shenzhen, China/Shenzhen Foreign Language) notched SLC's only block of the match. Junior Yolanda Lyne Cando (Arlington, Va./H-B Woodlawn) helped the offense with two assists and led the defense with eight digs. Libero Marie Richter (Chemnitz, Germany/St. Andrew's School) contributed five digs, while Monet Thibou (Brooklyn, N.Y./Elisabeth Irwin) had a kill in the match.

FOR THE GOTHIC KNIGHTS
Amber O'Donnell led the match with 10 kills, while setter Rachel McIntyre had 32 assists. Georgina Rayo led the match with 17 digs, and Shege Haxhaj recorded four blocks.

A NICE SYMMETRY
Sarah Lawrence hosted NJCU in the team's second day of competition this season, and the Gryphons hosted the Gothic Knights again in SLC's second-to-last day of competition.

UP NEXT
Sarah Lawrence completes its 2015 campaign with a Skyline tri-match on Saturday. The Gryphons host The Sage Gators at 11 a.m. and face St. Joseph's College Brooklyn at approximately 3 p.m.
