Cameron Martinez (Aledo, Texas/Aledo) became the league's first Men's Swimmer of the Week. First-year Gryphon
Devon Peal (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) was named Women's Swimming Rookie of the Week.
WOMEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEKHannah Lawson (Portland, Ore./Pacific Crest Community School)Lawson won five individual events for the Gryphons in the team's first-two meets of the season. Against nationally-ranked Stevens (Oct. 17), the sophomore won both the 100 yard breaststroke (1:11.73) and 200 breaststroke (2:34.74). Lawson also took part in five first-place swims at SLC's Sprint Carnival (Oct. 31), including three individual wins: 100 freestyle (1:00.40); 100 breaststroke (1:12.23); and 50 breaststroke (33.45). She helped the Gryphons to victory in the 200 medley relay (2:02.58) and 200 freestyle relay (1:50.80), giving the Green and White their fourth SLC Carnival title.
MEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEKCameron Martinez (Aledo, Texas/Aledo)Martinez was the Gryphons' top-scoring men's student-athlete at the SLC Sprint Carnival (Oct. 31). He picked up three individual wins, touching the wall first in the 100 yard butterfly (52.81), 200 individual medley (2:05.81) and 50 butterfly (24.43). The senior also contributed to second-place swims in the 200 medley relay (1:51.92) and 200 free relay (1:50.80). Against nationally-ranked Stevens (Oct. 17), Martinez was victorious in both the 100 butterfly (51.50) and 200 butterfly (1:58.20), adding a third-place swim in the 200 individual medley (2:04.49).
WOMEN'S SWIMMING ROOKIE OF THE WEEKDevon Peal (Springfield, Va./West Springfield)Peal won four events (including two individual races) at the SLC Sprint Carnival (Oct. 31). She was victorious in both the 200 individual medley (2:26.58) and 200 freestyle (2:09.63). The first-year Gryphon also swam a team-best effort in the 100 backstroke (1:05.10) and 500 freestyle (5:46.10) at Stevens (Oct. 17).
The Sarah Lawrence women's and men's swimming teams next compete against SUNY Cobleskill and College of Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday at Campbell Sports Center at 1:30 p.m.
