NEW YORK—For the second-straight week, four Sarah Lawrence College student-athletes were honored with each of the Skyline Conference's weekly swimming accolades, as announced by the league on Monday. Junior
Jacqueline Quirk (Millburn, N.J./Millburn) received her second Women's Swimmer of the Week honors, while
Devon Peal (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) was named Rookie of the Week for the third time. Senior
Cameron Martinez (Aledo, Texas/Aledo) was tabbed Men's Swimmer of the Week for the fifth time this season, and
Anthony Lee (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) was selected as Rookie of the Week for the third time.
WOMEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK
Jacqueline Quirk (Millburn, N.J./Millburn)
Quirk won three events when the Gryphons took on Purchase College in SLC's final meet of the 2015 calendar year. She touched the wall first in the 200 yard individual medley (2:32.31) and was victorious in the 100 breaststroke (1:17.97). Quirk also contributed as a member of the winning Green and White 200 medley relay team (2:06.04). On the season, Quirk recorded individual wins against six of seven league opponents and won all three of her events against five of them.
MEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK
Cameron Martinez (Aledo, Texas/Aledo)
Martinez won three events in SLC's win over Purchase College on Saturday, helping the Gryphons to clinch a winning 2015-16 season. He won both the 100 yard butterfly (57.58) and 200 freestyle (1:56.29) while swimming on the victorious 200 medley relay team (1:52.40). With the team victory, SLC finished the season 3-2 against conference opponents; against the five opponents, Martinez won all 11 of his individual races—including all butterfly events.
WOMEN'S ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Devon Peal (Springfield, Va./West Springfield)
Peal earned her second-straight Rookie of the Week honors after two wins against Purchase. She placed first in the 1,000 yard freestyle (11:53.80) and was on the victorious 200 medley relay team (2:06.04). Peal also placed second in the 500 freestyle (5:48.09). The Gryphons finished the conference season with a 5-2 record against Skyline schools, while Peal recorded individual wins against all seven opponents. In league meets, the rookie had a pair of runner-up finishes along with eight solo wins.
MEN'S ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Anthony Lee (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island)
Lee had two wins against Purchase, winning the 100 yard backstroke (1:02.12) while joining Martinez on the winning 200 medley relay team (1:52.40). He added a runner-up swim in the 50 freestyle (23.50). On the season, Lee was instrumental in helping the Gryphons to clinch a winning record, both overall and in the Skyline. He won at least one individual race against all five league opponents, including all of his appearances in the 100 freestyle.
SLC swimming returns to action for the Gryphons' final dual meet of the season at College of Staten Island on January 16.
