Box Score BRONXVILLE, N.Y.-In the Gryphons' final home game of the season, Sarah Lawrence College men's basketball was defeated by The Sage Colleges, 72-35, in a Skyline contest at Noyes Court at Campbell Sports Center on Thursday.
Sarah Lawrence (1-23, 0-18 Skyline) went on the scoreboard first following an early layup by rookie
Logan Dubek (Tempe, Ariz./Corona del Sol). Sophomore
Jeff Jordan II (Smithfield, Va., Smithfield) soon followed with a layup of his own and point from the foul line.
Five minutes into the game, captain
Graham Gilleran (San Francisco, Calif./Archbishop Riordan) converted a jumper to give SLC a 7-4 lead over the league's first-place team. The Gryphons held the Gators scoreless on seven of the visitors' first nine possessions, allowing Sarah Lawrence to lead for three minutes in the game.
As a team, SLC shot 3-for-6 from three point territory in the first half, including a trey by
Ege Ozcan (Istanbul, Turkey/Andrews Osborne Acad. (Ohio)) to keep the Gryphons within one point, 17-16. The Gators scored the next seven points and took a 31-23 advantage by halftime.
After Jordan scored the first basket of the second period, Sage (21-4, 15-3 Skyline) held SLC without a field goal for the next nine minutes. The Gators led by as many as 39, until SLC's
Jerry Ren (Guilin, China/Rutgers Prep (N.J.)) scored his first career points in the final seconds of the game.
Jordan led the Gryphons with 10 points, scoring eight of them in the first half. He also collected a game-high seven rebounds.
Gilleran dished out a game and career-high five assists, recording a pair of blocks to improve his career total to an SLC-best 67. The sophomore also reeled in six rebounds, matching his highest total in his last 14 appearances.
For Sage, Jacob Sopchak led the game with 11 points on 4-for-5 shooting from the field and a pair of successful tries from the free-throw line. Travis Gill scored 10 points, while Marcus Patterson tied for a game-high with seven rebounds.
Having completed its conference schedule, Sarah Lawrence turns its attention to its regular season finale. The Gryphons will travel to play NJIT on February 28 in the College's first-ever head-to-head contest against an NCAA Division I program.
