Box Score 2 JERSEY CITY, N.J.—Sarah Lawrence College men's volleyball squared off against New Jersey City University and Ramapo College in a pair of Skyline matches at JJ Moore Athletics & Fitness Center on Saturday.
In the teams' first-ever meeting, NJCU (12-7, 5-3 Skyline) defeated Sarah Lawrence (0-12, 0-7 Skyline) in straight sets. The Gothic Knights won the first five points in each set en route to victory.
Ramapo (12-12, 7-1 Skyline) ran away with the first set, but the Gryphons played tighter in the latter two sets. SLC landed five kills in the second set and capitalized on 10 Roadrunner errors in the third set.
On the day, sophomore
Amit Sankaran (San Francisco, Calif./Mallya Aditi International) led the Green and White with four kills, while junior
Alex Carroll (Boston, Mass./Homeschooled) landed three kills. Setter
Richie Warke (Vancouver, Canada/Rockridge Secondary) notched six assists, and junior
Cameron Martinez (Aledo, Texas/Aledo) had the team's only service ace.
On defense, senior
Derek Komar (Stormville, N.Y./John Jay) led the team with nine digs, followed by Martinez with six digs and Sankaran and rookie
Isaac Gamboa (Bakersfield, Calif./Stockdale) with five digs apiece. Carroll, Gamboa, Martinez and Sankaran split the squad's two blocks in the tri-match.
Up next, the Gryphons travel to Purchase College on Monday. The Skyline match is a makeup of the contest previously scheduled for Feb. 22.
