NEW YORK-Sarah Lawrence College student-athlete Andre Garibaldi (New Hope, Pa./New Hope-Solebury) was named Skyline men's tennis Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday.

On Wednesday, April 1, Garibaldi led the Gryphons to their first victory of the season by winning both of his matches in a 9-0 sweep of St. Joseph's College Brooklyn. At No. 2 doubles, the rookie teamed with sophomore Aidan O'Brien (Mansfield, Conn./Edwin O. Smith) to triumph, 8-6. In the No. 3 singles match, Garibaldi won his first set before dropping the second. In the end, he picked up the hard-fought victory, 6-3, 1-6, (10-6).

In Saturday's match against York, Garibaldi again cruised to a pair of wins. This time, he partnered with sophomore Roland Wynter (New York, N.Y./Lower Manhattan Arts Academy) to earn an 8-3 doubles win before taking a comfortable straight-sets win in singles, 6-2, 6-0.

On the season, Garibaldi is one of only two Gryphons to have played singles and doubles against all six opponents. He has a team-high six wins overall, racking up a 3-3 record in individual and partnership play.

Men's tennis plays three matches in the coming week. The Gryphons are slated to host College of Staten Island on Wednesday before facing Skyline opponent Purchase College at home on Saturday. SLC then travels to Farmingdale State College on Sunday.
