Women's Volleyball Plays Friday Night Tri-Match

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WILKES-BARRE, Pa.—In the front half of a two-day road trip to Pennsylvania, Sarah Lawrence College women's volleyball fell to Alfred State College and host Wilkes University by identical, 3-0, margins at the Marts Center on Friday. The Gryphons travel on to a tri-match at Keystone College on Saturday.

NICE TO MEET YOU
Sarah Lawrence's match against Alfred State marks the programs' first-ever meeting. The Gryphons and Pioneers are set for a rematch on Saturday. Wilkes defeated Sarah Lawrence on one other occasion, winning 3-0 in 2013.

AGAINST ALFRED STATE
In the Gryphons' first match of the night, Alfred State cruised to a 25-9 first set. SLC gave the Pioneers trouble in the second and third set, as the Gryphons racked up 33 points. Rookie Seven Green (Akwesasne/Frank Sinatra Sch. of the Arts) led the offense with four kills, while junior Yolanda Lyne Cando (Arlington, Va./H-B Woodlawn) added three kills, and sophomore Eleni Spentzouris (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) had a career-best two kills. Monet Thibou (Brooklyn, N.Y./Elisabeth Irwin) also contributed a kill.

VS. THE LADY COLONELS
Sarah Lawrence added eight kills in the nightcap, led by three kills each from Green and Cando. Rookie Hanna DeLoe (Stamford, Conn./CGS at Brien McMahon) recorded her second kill of the night, and Spentzouris picked up her third.

SETTING THE TABLE
Sarah Lawrence setter CJ Kelley (Las Vegas, Nev./Basic) had 15 assists on the day, including eight against Alfred State. In addition to one kill, Kelley also had the only Gryphon blocks of the day, recording a solo stop against each opponent. Spentzouris tallied her first career assist against Wilkes.

ACES HIGH
Cando served up two aces against Wilkes. Green had two aces on the day--one against each opponent--while Kelley and Spentzouris also had service aces.

ON DEFENSE
First year DeLoe anchored the Green and White offense in the first match, recording seven digs. Green had a season-high five digs against Alfred State, while Marie Richter (Chemnitz, Germany/St. Andrew's School) matched her season high with two digs, finishing with three for the evening. Against Wilkes, Kelley had a team-high four digs, followed by three from Spentzouris and two each by Green and DeLoe.

UP NEXT
Sarah Lawrence travels to Keystone College on Saturday. The Gryphons take on the host Giants at 10 a.m. before a rematch with Alfred State at noon.
