MORNING MATCHAt 10 a.m., the Gryphons faced the host Giants. After a slow start, Sarah Lawrence picked up five kills and two aces in the third set. Junior
Yolanda Lyne Cando (Arlington, Va./H-B Woodlawn) matched her season high of six kills along with her first block of the year, while sophomore
Eleni Spentzouris (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) added a season-best two kills. Setter
CJ Kelley (Las Vegas, Nev./Basic) tallied three service aces, eight assists and a kill.
ASC RE-MATCHFacing Alfred State for the second time in two days, the Gryphons totaled 20 points, capitalizing on 14 Pioneer errors. Spentzouris and Cando each had a kill in the first set, while
Helen Song (Shenzhen, China/Shenzhen Foreign Language) added her first career kill in the set.
Seven Green (Akwesasne/Frank Sinatra Sch. of the Arts) added a kill in the third set, while Kelley had a third-set ace. Kelley led all players with six digs, and Cando had three digs in the contest.
ON DEFENSEAgainst Alfred State, Kelley and
Hanna DeLoe (Stamford, Conn./CGS at Brien McMahon) shared a block in the second set, one of two Gryphon blocks on the day. DeLoe finished the day with four digs, and Green had three digs.
Marie Richter (Chemnitz, Germany/St. Andrew's School) added a pair of digs, and
Monet Thibou (Brooklyn, N.Y./Elisabeth Irwin) had a dig.
UP NEXTSarah Lawrence takes on The City College of New York on Tuesday in Manhattan. The match will be SLC's eighth of 11 consecutive road matches.
