NEW YORK—A record-setting five Sarah Lawrence College student-athletes have been selected by the Skyline Conference as weekly honorees, as announced by the league on Tuesday. In the first awards cycle of the 2015-16 academic year, the Gryphons collected five out of 12 possible awards, beating out 10 other conference schools. The accomplishment marks the first time that the Gryphons have had more than four Skyline award winners in a week.
WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEKSarah Fiordaliso (Buffalo, N.Y./Sweet Home)A senior, Fiordaliso returned to the Gryphons after a year abroad and made an immediate impact on the team. She contributed to both of the Gryphons' points in a 7-2 loss at Staten Island. Teaming with classmate
Lane Garber (Los Altos, Calif./Los Altos)--who also spent 2014 abroad--the duo won their No. 3 doubles match, 8-5. Fiordaliso captured the No. 5 singles match in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.
WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER OF THE WEEKMary Kauffman (Marblehead, Mass./Marblehead)Returning to action from a year abroad, the 2013 team MVP and 2012 SLC Newcomer of the Year placed second in Sunday's Baruch Invitational, clocking in at 26:37--a mere 18 seconds back from the leader. The finish marked the senior's eighth top-10 effort and sixth runner-up performance of her career. Since 2012, Kauffman has been the first Gryphon across the finish line in each of her 13 races.
WOMEN'S SOCCER ROOKIE OF THE WEEKNora Burrows (Titusville, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central)Burrows amassed seven points on three assists and a pair of game-winning goals as Sarah Lawrence opened its 2015 season with wins over St. Elizabeth (2-1) and Valley Forge (3-0) for its first-ever 2-0 start. Burrows registered 11 shots in the two matches and scored or assisted all five of the Gryphons' goals in the two contests. She moved to fifth among SLC's all-time points leaders.
MEN'S SOCCER ROOKIE OF THE WEEKMohamed Camara (Macenta, Guinea/New World)In his collegiate debut on Sept. 4, Camara registered a hat trick on just four shots as Sarah Lawrence notched a 4-0 win over Medgar Evers. His performance marked just the fourth hat trick in program history. Camara's game-winning goal came in the 11th minute of the match.
WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEKCJ Kelley (Las Vegas, Nev./Basic)Kelley amassed 17 assists and five service aces on Sept. 3 as Sarah Lawrence opened its season with a 3-0 victory over Medgar Evers. The first-year setter also added a pair of blocks in the win. Kelley served six straight points to help the Green and White to an 11-1 run, giving the Gryphons momentum in the sweep.
