BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—A Privateer layup on the visitors' final possession proved decisive, as Sarah Lawrence College men's basketball was edged by Maritime College, 68-66, in a Skyline game at Noyes Court at Campbell Sports Center on Tuesday.

Stevan Radosavljevic (Lazarevac, Serbia/Grammar School Lazarevac) scored the first points of the game, but Maritime took an 8-2 edge after three minutes. Later, captain

Junior
Mat Gerak (Monroe, Conn./Masuk) made four field goals to lead the Gryphons with 11 points at the break. Eng's pair of treys gave him eight points at the intermission.
SECOND HALFAfter the break, the two teams played evenly in the second half. Maritime maintained its advantage for 18 minutes of play, while the Gryphons kept up the pressure. The Privateer lead reached its largest at 57-50 with seven and a half minutes to play, and with four minutes to go, Maritime was still in front, 64-58. Gerak triggered a momentum swing with a pair of successful free throws and a layup, making it a 64-62 game with three minutes left. A Gilleran free throw and a trey by Eng finally put SLC on top, 66-64, with 1:40 remaining.
THE FINAL MINUTESOn Maritime's ensuring possession, Patrick MacDonald tied the game with two successful shots from the charity stripe. Both defenses forced turnovers on the next two possessions, and the Privateers had the ball coming out of a timeout with 26 seconds remaining. As time waned, John Liccese drove to the paint and was successful on a reverse layup, the would-be game-winner. SLC had six seconds to respond on its final drive but was unable to attempt a try before the horn sounded.
FOR THE GRYPHONSEng led all players with 11 points in the second half and finished the game with a career-best of 19 points. Gerak scored nine in the second period to total 20 points for a share of the game-high. Gilleran scored five points in each period to reach double-figures with 10 points.

Wyatt Rocheleau (San Jose, Calif./Christopher) tallied three assists each. Gilleran increased his career total with a pair of blocks, and Eng recorded his first career block.
FOR THE PRIVATEERSMacDonald led all players with 15 rebounds and scored 20 points for his fifth double-double of the season. Isaiah Hayes scored 15 points with nine rebounds, and Akil Spruill had 14 points on the day.
