Men's Basketball Opens 2016 at Home

Box Score BRONXVILLE, N.Y.-Captain Graham Gilleran (San Francisco, Calif./Archbishop Riordan) led all players with 21 points to help the Gryphons trim a 16-point deficit to five, but Sarah Lawrence College men's basketball's rally fell short to SUNY College at Old Westbury, 75-66, in Skyline action at Noyes Court at Campbell Sports Center on Monday.

IN SHORT
Old Westbury (6-5, 5-1 Skyline) def. Sarah Lawrence (2-9, 0-7 Skyline), 75-66.

GAME FLOW
Sarah Lawrence was plagued by 7-for-23 shooting in the first half. Junior Stevan Radosavljevic (Lazarevac, Serbia/Grammar School Lazarevac) had four points in the half, and rookie Parker Hagmaier (Oakland, Calif./Bishop O'Dowd) led the game with five rebounds while Old Westbury doubled up the Gryphons, 32-16, at halftime.

The tide turned in the second half as the Gryphons slashed the deficit with a 10-2 run to open the period. Old Westbury halted the attack and the two teams played even for much of the second half with the advantage hovering between eight and 12 points. OW went up by 14 points, 69-55, with two and a half minutes to play and seemed destined to cruise to the win. Five quick points by sophomore Malin Segal (Wenham, Mass./Concord Academy) and a three-pointer by rookie Gabe Eng (Brooklyn, N.Y./The Beacon School), brought the game within reach, 69-63, with a minute to play.

Another trey by Eng advanced the score to 71-66 with the Gryphons down by only five points and 48 ticks left on the clock. In the end, solid free-throw shooting by the Panthers sealed the visitors' win, 75-66.

FOR THE GRYPHONS
Three SLC players scored in double-digits in the second half, led by 19 points by Gilleran. Adding a first-half field goal, the junior captain finished with 20-plus points for the second time this season and fourth time in his career. Eng totaled 11 points in the second half, bolstered by a trio of three pointers. Segal scored 11 points in the second period, totaling 13.

Under the boards, Hagmaier led all players with 10 rebounds, contributing six points and four assists on offense. Rookie guard Austin Jones (Upper Marlboro, Md./Flint Hill School) shared a game-high six assists, and junior guard Wyatt Rocheleau (San Jose, Calif./Christopher) dished out five assists.
