BRONXVILLE, N.Y.—The Gryphons set a new team scoring record by reaching the century mark for the first time in team history, as Sarah Lawrence College men's basketball defeated Pratt Institute, 100-71, at Noyes Court at Campbell Sports Center on Friday. More than 300 fans were in attendance for the feat as part of the College's annual Homecoming celebration.
IN SHORT
Sarah Lawrence (3-3) def. Pratt (2-2), 100-71.
KEY MOMENTS
Pratt gave the Gryphons a scare early in the contest. The Cannoneers led 8-5 and took their largest advantage at 27-23 with 6:27 to play in the first half. Pratt forced a tie at 36-36 with 1:35 in the first half, but the Gryphons went ahead for good after sophomore
Gabriel Eng (Brooklyn, N.Y./The Beacon School) scored the last eight points of the period on a pair of three-pointers and two made free throws. Eng finished the half with 17 points, followed by junior
Malin Segal (Wenham, Mass./Concord Academy) with 10.
After leading 44-36 at halftime, Sarah Lawrence started the second period on a 23-3 hot streak to open up a 67-39 advantage. Pratt regained momentum with a 21-5 run over the next seven minutes, yet the Gryphons never allowed their opponents to cut the lead below double-digits. Foul trouble left the visitors shorthanded in the final minutes, and rookie
Eamon Collins (Kamakura, Japan/Avon Old Farms (Conn.)) had the honor of scoring the final four points in the team's first ever century, 100-71. Segal scored 19 points in the second half and led all players with 29.
IN THE RECORD BOOK
Along with the team's highest-ever scoring output, the Sarah Lawrence team set a program record with 15 made three-point field goals.
Eng put his name in the record book with the team's best-ever performance from the foul line, converting on all seven free-throw attempts. The effort matches the record set by then-rookie
Mat Gerak (Monroe, Conn./Masuk) in 2014. Segal's 29 points are the second most in team history. The junior guard also entered the record book with the team's second-most steals in a game (six) and third most made three-point field goals (six).
TOP GRYPHONS
Segal's 29 points came on six three-pointers, while the junior guard added six steals and three assists. Eng exceeded 20 points for the second time this season, scoring a career-best 24. Senior
Jeff Jordan II (Smithfield, Va./Smithfield) finished with eight points, while rookie
BJ Sanders (Silver Spring, Md./Georgetown Prep) scored seven. Rookies
Justice Nikkel (Hong Kong/Blair Academy (N.J.)) and
