NEW YORK—For the second-straight season, Sarah Lawrence College men's swimmer
Cameron Martinez (Aledo, Texas/Aledo) as been named to the Skyline Men's Swimming All-Conference First Team, as announced by the league on Saturday.
Martinez's selection comes after the SLC senior won all four of his individual events and set two meet records at the 2016 Skyline Championships. As the two-day meet's top point scorer, he was named Skyline Men's Most Outstanding Swimmer at the conclusion of the championships.
On Friday, Martinez began his domination by winning the 200 yard freestyle in a season-best 1:47.05, a time that was 0.40 second faster than his closest opponent and 0.07 second shy of the 10-year Skyline Championship record in the event. The Gryphon was also victorious in the 200 butterfly with a mark of 1:59.25, breaking his own meet record by three seconds.
Saturday's action saw Martinez win in back-to-back races, taking victories in the final two individual events of the meet. He won the 100 yard butterfly (51.68) by a two-second margin. In the 200 yard individual medley, his time of 1:59.21 beat the six-year-old Skyline Championships record by 4.5 seconds.
In the team's second season in the league, Martinez goes in the SLC history book with seven Skyline titles and two selections to the all-conference first team.
Sarah Lawrence next competes at the 2016 Upper New York State Collegiate Swimming Association Championships, hosted by Ithaca College, February 17-20. Martinez looks to solidify his qualification to the 2016 NCAA Division III Men's Swimming & Diving Championships, March 16-19, in Greensboro, N.C.
