Ege Ozcan (Istanbul, Turkey/Andrews Osborne Acad. (Ohio)) tied the game at 11-11. The Privateers scored the next 10 points to start a 15-2 run. Leading 26-13, Maritime maintained a double-digit advantage for the remainder of the half and led 42-26 at halftime.
SLC opened the second half on an 11-3 run that included 10 points on four field goals by captain
Graham Gilleran (San Francisco, Calif./Archbishop Riordan). The Gryphons kept the deficit under 10 points, 52-43, thanks to a three-pointer by
Brendan O'Connell (Andover, Mass./Phillips Academy) with 13 minutes to play in the game. With four minutes to go, rookie
Parker Hagmaier (Oakland, Calif./Bishop O'Dowd) made back-to-back layups to pull within seven points, 63-56. Carrying momentum, SLC ran out of time on the comeback, and four last-minute points from the foul line iced Maritime's victory.
FOR THE GRYPHONSGilleran and Gerak led the Gryphons with 14 points apiece. Hagmaier collected the fourth double-double of his debut season, recording 12 points and a game-high 14 rebounds while dishing out five assists. In the final game of his career, O'Connell converted a pair of treys for six points, grabbing four rebounds with an assist and a steal. Eng finished with six points, five rebounds and three assists.
Ozcan totaled four points, and
Austin Jones (Upper Marlboro, Md./Flint Hill School) had two points, two rebounds, an assist and a steal.
Wyatt Rocheleau (San Jose, Calif./Christopher) notched a rebound and a steal in the final game of his junior season.
FOR THE PRIVATEERSPatrick MacDonald led the game with 18 points and earned a double-double with 13 rebounds. John Liccese had 15 points and six assists, and Brendan Halligan reached double-figures with 10 points.
2015-16 SEASON RECAPIn a season of vast improvement, Sarah Lawrence highlighted its first season of full NCAA membership by ending a decade-long drought without a win over a Division III opponent. The Gryphons also recorded a pair of Skyline victories in the team's second season in the league.
