Volleyball Takes on St. Joseph's Brooklyn in Rematch

BRONXVILLE, N.Y.
-Sarah Lawrence College men's volleyball hosted Skyline newcomer St. Joseph's College Brooklyn in a rematch at Noyes Court at Campbell Sports Center on Tuesday.

MATCH FLOW
St. Joseph's jumped out to a quick 7-0 start in the first set, and SLC was unable to close the gap to fewer than five points. Junior Isaac Gamboa (Bakersfield, Calif./Stockdale) recorded the Gryphons' first kill of the match. Rookie Darcy Thompson (Highland Park, N.J./Highland Park) notched a kill and a service ace in the frame. Senior Alex Carroll (Boston, Mass./Homeschooled) and rookie Callan Moor (Los Angeles, Calif./New Roads) each had a kill and shared a block in the set. Sophomore setter Richard Warke (Vancouver, Canada/Rockridge Secondary) and senior Zach Hasl (Somers, N.Y./Soundview Preparatory) both assisted two blocks.

SLC started set two with a pair of kills, one each by Carroll and Gamboa, to take a 3-2 edge early. Five straight errors by the Bears gave the Gryphons an 8-3 advantage, but SJC scored 11 in a row to regain a 14-8 margin. Hasl and Moor split a block near the end of the set.

In set three, the teams tied seven times before settling at a 10-10 deadlock. From there, St. Joseph's began to pull away, scoring six of the final seven points of the sweep. Moor recorded two of his three kills in the set, and Gamboa picked up his third of the match. Thompson served up his second ace, and Gamboa also posted a service ace.

FOR THE GRYPHONS
Carroll led the Gryphons with a career-high 11 digs, one shy of the team's most this season. Warke and Moor totaled seven digs apiece, and Gamboa followed with six digs. Thompson had three digs, and Hasl had one in the match.

Warke accumulated seven assists in the match, and Hasl had one. Maxwell Savo (Cross River, N.Y./John Jay) played his first career three-set match.

FOR THE BEARS
Alec Smally had match highs with 13 kills and three service aces. Clyde Delacruz had 11 kills and two blocks. Setter Norrin Martinez posted 33 assists, and Thomas Kennedy contributed 15 digs.

UP NEXT
Sarah Lawrence plays four matches on the road before returning home for the team's finale on April 2. The Gryphons travel to Kean University on Wednesday and to Bard College on Thursday.
