Callan Moor (Los Angeles, Calif./New Roads) scored the Gryphons' first point of the opening set, while the Tigers committed four service errors in the frame.
In the second set, junior
Isaac Gamboa (Bakersfield, Calif./Stockdale) landed a kill on the first rally. WU took a 5-1 advantage but four-straight errors tied the set, 5-5. SLC stayed within reach, trailing 11-10, before an 8-1 Wittenberg run broke open the set. Gamboa scored four kills in the set, while Moor added two.
In the third set, Gamboa scored his fifth kill while Moor contributed his fourth. Sophomore setter
Richard Warke (Vancouver, Canada/Rockridge Secondary) finished the match with six assists. Rookies
Darcy Thompson (Highland Park, N.J./Highland Park) and
Gavin Spilker (Weston, Ohio/Otsego) each had an assist as well.
ON DEFENSESenior
Alex Carroll (Boston, Mass./Homeschooled) notched a block for SLC, adding a dig. Spilker led the Green and White with four digs, followed by Moor with three. Warke and Gamboa recorded a pair of digs each, and senior
Zach Hasl (Somers, N.Y./Soundview Preparatory) also had a dig.
FOR THE TIGERSMax Baker and Ashton Sellers both led the match with seven kills each. Setter Alex Brenner had a match-high 18 assists. Joseph Belair served up eight aces, and Martis Roze led all players with eight digs. Belair and Charles Atkinson shared two blocks in the match.
UP NEXTSarah Lawrence takes a break before returning to the courts on March 19 when the Gryphons travel to a Skyline tri-match hosted by New Jersey City University. The Gryphons then host The Sage Colleges on Sunday, March 20, at noon.
