Six Gryphons Named to Skyline Fall Sportsmanship Teams

NEW YORK—Six Sarah Lawrence College Gryphons were among the 69 student-athletes named to the Skyline All-Sportsmanship Teams for the 2015 Fall sports season, as announced by the league on Friday.

The honorees are now semifinalists to receive the 2015-16 Male & Female Sporting Awards, which will be voted on by the conference's directors of athletics at the conclusion of the academic year. Each member school may select one women's and one men's student-athlete as finalists.

In addition to being part of the Skyline Conference mission statement, the NCAA Division III Philosophy Statement encourages "the development of sportsmanship and positive societal attitudes in all constituents, including student-athletes, coaches, administrative personnel and spectators.

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
Senior Mary Kauffman (Marblehead, Mass./Marblehead) is a three-time All-Conference honoree and the first female Gryphon to earn first-team All-Skyline honors. She posted six top-20 finishes and four top-10 runs, including a sixth-place finish at the Skyline Championship.

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
Junior Pat Newsom (South Bend, Ind./John Adams) served as team captain for the second season and receives his second All-Sportsmanship selection. He consistently performed as the Gryphons' No. 2 runner, helping the team with his consistency and leadership.

MEN'S SOCCER
Senior James Berry (New York, N.Y./Kent) re-wrote the men's soccer record book with his second season as the Gryphons' net-minder. He finished the 2015 season with 10.14 saves per game, third-most in NCAA Division III and best in the Skyline.

WOMEN'S SOCCER
Junior Meg Berry (Farmington Hills, Mich./North Farmington) was a first-year contributor to the women's soccer program but her achievements were invaluable to the team. She fought through injury to play in nine games while averaging more than 40 minutes per appearance.

WOMEN'S TENNIS
Junior Juliet Slade (St. Paul, Minn./Central) also received her second All-Sportsmanship team selection. She received second-team All-Skyline honors in the fall after helping the Gryphons to their first Skyline postseason berth in any sport. She is the program's career leader in doubles wins.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL
Rookie CJ Kelley (Las Vegas, Nev./Basic) received second-team All-Skyline honors after notching five double-doubles, including two triple-doubles in 2015. The first-year setter started in all 28 matches and recorded the third-most assists of any Gryphon in a single season.
