IN SHORT
Sarah Lawrence (3-2) def. Saint Elizabeth (1-4), 6-2.
KEY MOMENTS
Camara capitalized on a defensive miscue to score his first goal in the second minute of the game. Less than eight minutes later, rookie
Owen Smith (Kingston, Jamaica/Bronx Ctr for Science and Math) took the ball down the left side and made a crossing pass that Camara fed to junior
Alix Legrand (Damascus, Pa./Scranton Prep). Legrand fired the ball home for his fourth career goal.
In the 14th minute, defender
Colin Berg (Franklin, Mass./Mount Saint Charles Academy) sent a long pass down the right side, and forward
Finn Macmillan (London, U.K./Bryanston) dished it off to Camara who scored the eventual game-winner from the top of the box, putting the Gryphons on top, 3-0. Berg came through again in the 26th minute, finding Macmillan who shot it himself this time for his second score of the season.
In the 32nd, the Gryphons went on top, 5-0, after Macmillan fired a pass across the face of the goal, where it was deflected into the net by an Eagle trying to clear the ball. CSE got a goal back in the 37th minute, but Camara rounded out his hat trick by driving the ball through several defenders to score the last Gryphon goal in the 39th minute.
FOR THE GRYPHONS
Defenders
Roland Wynter (New York, N.Y./Lower Manhattan Arts Academy) and
Tobias Geisler Mesevage (Ghent, N.Y./Hawthorne Valley Waldorf School) both contributed to the victory by playing the full 90 minutes. Sophomore
Walker May (Pawlet, Vt./Long Trail School) came off the bench to record a pair of shots. In goal, junior
Mehran Hicks (Hartsdale, N.Y./The Masters School) made a save in the win, while
Isar Wadhwa (New Delhi, India/The British School) made his debut in a Gryphon jersey, notching a save in 45 minutes of work.
IN THE RECORD BOOK
The six-goal effort marks the Gryphons' highest scoring output since a 6-1 victory over Webb on Oct. 21, 2012. Individually, Camara's hat trick is the fifth in the program's history, and his first goal in 1:40 is the team's fastest on record. Camara set a new record for shots in a game (10), and his seven points (3 G, 1 A) match the record set by Ishaan Pujari '15 in the 2013 season. The three-game win streak is the program's longest in a single season; the Gryphons ended 2010 with a victory and won the first two games of 2011 with a three-game combined score of 21-5.
