Box Score BRONX, N.Y.—In the Gryphons' first game of 2017, Sarah Lawrence College men's basketball was defeated by John Jay College, 66-60, in non-conference action at The Doghouse on Monday.

Mat Gerak (Monroe, Conn./Masuk) scored four early points to give Sarah Lawrence its largest lead, 9-6. From there, the Bulldogs went on a 13-point run while the Gryphons suffered a seven-minute scoring drought. A last-second layup by sophomore
Austin Jones (Upper Marlboro, Md./Flint Hill School) cut the halftime deficit to five points, 30-25.
Rookie
Joseph Kleeman (Greenwood Village, Colo./Arapahoe) drained a three-pointer to make it a two-point game, 43-41, with 12 minutes minutes remaining. Just inside the eight-minute mark, another Kleeman trey kept the Gryphons within one possession, 51-48. John Jay scored the next nine points to earn the Bulldogs' largest lead, 62-50, with three minutes left on the clock. Rookie
BJ Sanders (Silver Spring, Md./Georgetown Prep) scored six points to lead the Gryphons on a 10-2 rally, pulling SLC to within four points, 64-60, in the final minute. In the end, the momentum was not enough to propel the Green and White to victory, and John Jay earned its first win of the season.

Jones was the only SLC player to score in double digits, contributing 10 points with three rebounds and two steals. Gerak and junior
Malin Segal (Wenham, Mass./Concord Academy) each scored eight points, while Eng and senior
Jeff Jordan II (Smithfield, Va./Smithfield) followed with seven points apiece.
Under the boards, Sanders collected a team-high 10 rebounds, while senior
Graham Gilleran (San Francisco, Calif./Archbishop Riordan) collected eight rebounds while dishing-out a team-high four assists. Kleeman finished with six points and a team-best three steals.
