Men’s Basketball Rallies Back to Knock Off Maritime, 70-67

BRONXVILLE, N.Y.Omar Jamaleddine scored a game-high 21 points, as Sarah Lawrence rallied back from a 16-point second half deficit to defeat Maritime, 70-67, on Saturday at Campbell Sports Center. With the win, the Gryphons improve to 9-7 overall with a 7-4 mark in Skyline play.

TOP GRYPHON PERFORMERS
Jamaleddine reached the 20-point plateau for the fourth time this season, hitting 8-of-14 field goal attempts. The first-year also grabbed seven rebounds and handed out four assists.

Enike Anyia had a solid outing, posting 17 points and nine rebounds, while BJ Sanders contributed 12 points and seven rebounds.

Austin Jones posted 10 points, five rebounds, a team-best five assists, and a pair of steals, recording two or more steals for a fourth consecutive contest.

Isaiah Pean grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds while scoring four points, while Kaleb Robinson, who made his second straight start, chipped in with six points, four rebounds and three assists.

Sarah Lawrence, coming off a season sweep of St. Joseph's Brooklyn on Thursday, started the game red-hot offensively, racing out to a 15-3 lead in the first 3:48 of the contest. Jamaleddine and Robinson combined to score 11 of the 15 points.

Maritime chipped away at the deficit, tying the game 17-17 with 9:41 remaining in the half. The Privateers seized the Gryphons' momentum with their 3-point shooting, outscoring Sarah Lawrence 19-7 over 7:12 to open up a 36-24 lead. Anyia hit a layup in the final minute to shrink the deficit, 36-26, entering halftime.

Sarah Lawrence cut the margin to single digits to begin the second half, but the Privateers continued to score the basketball, opening up a 16-point advantage (52-36) with 14:37 remaining in the game.

Following a timeout, the Gryphons began to mount their comeback, outscoring Maritime 27-11 over 11:52 to knot the contest 63-63 with 2:45 left in regulation. The run was capped off by Anyia, who scored seven of the final nine points of the run.

Jamaleddine gave the Gryphons their first lead since the opening period with a jumper at the 2:24 mark, followed by a field goal from Sanders to give Sarah Lawrence a 67-63 cushion with 1:31 left to play.

Maritime cut the margin to one possession with a layup, but free throws from Jones and Anyia made the score 69-65 with 12 seconds left. The Privateers hit two more charity tosses with seven seconds on the clock to get within two (69-67). Jamaleddine made one of two from the line to extend the margin (70-67). Maritime had a chance to tie the game as time expired, but missed the 3-pointer, securing the Skyline victory for the Gryphons.

It was win No. 9 for Sarah Lawrence and the squad's seventh conference win of the season. The Gryphons have defeated six different Skyline programs this year. After dropping two straight games, Sarah Lawrence have won back-to-back contests and five of seven overall.
