Women’s Volleyball Drops Pair of Matches at Non-Conference Tri

CAMDEN, N.J. – The Sarah Lawrence women's volleyball team suffered a pair of losses Saturday at a non-conference tri-match at Rutgers-Camden.

Match 1: Elizabethtown 3, Sarah Lawrence 0

Elizabethtown, a member of the Landmark Conference, pulled away from the Gryphons in the first set. Tied 20-20, the Blue Jays scored the final five points of the frame to win the game and take a 1-0 series lead.

Elizabethtown raced out to a 16-6 lead in the second set, cruising to a 25-14 win in the second game for a 2-0 series advantage. The Bluejays completed the series sweep with a 25-17 decision in the final set.

Melanie Coleman paced the Gryphons with 15 points, collecting 14 kills and one block. Isabel Pecora handed out 24 assists, while Clarise Steiner chipped in with seven kills and a team-high 14 digs.

Match 2: Rutgers Camden 3, Sarah Lawrence 1
The Gryphons started out strong, jumping out to a 7-2 lead in the opening set to take the game, 25-17.

Rutgers Camden knotted the series at 1-1 with a 25-14 decision in the second set. The Raptors took a 2-1 series edge with a 25-16 victory in the third set, and produced a 25-17 verdict in the fourth set to clinch the series victory.

Coleman finished with 12 kills and three blocks in the loss, while Steiner added seven kills and 16 digs. Pecora dished out 21 assists while Gabrielle Hegedus recorded the Gryphons' two aces of the match.
