Women’s Volleyball Sweeps Lehman in Non-Conference Finale

BRONX, N.Y. – The Sarah Lawrence women's volleyball team wrapped up its non-conference slate Saturday with a victory over Lehman at The APEX Center. It's the Gryphons' first win over the Lightening at the APEX since 1997.

Sarah Lawrence, who entered the match 3-14 all-time against Lehman, turned in a solid performance against the CUNYAC opponent, as the Gryphons picked up victory No. 13, tying the record for most wins in a season upon transitioning to NCAA Division III status.

In the opening frame, the two teams traded points for a 6-6 score. Sarah Lawrence created separation, scoring nine straight points to open up a 15-6 advantage, the largest margin of the set. The Gryphons went on to win the set by a 25-18 score.

In the second set, Lehman raced out to an early 7-3 lead, but the Gryphons chipped away at the deficit to knot the contest at 13-13. Sarah Lawrence took control from that point, finishing the game on a 12-1 run to win, 25-14, and take a 2-0 series lead.

Much like the first two sets, Sarah Lawrence and Lehman exchanged runs throughout in the final frame. Tied at 21-21, the Gryphons scored the final four points of the set to secure the 25-21 victory and series sweep.

Melanie Coleman paced the Gryphons with nine kills, while Davis Mathis finished with five kills, three aces and two total blocks.

Isabel Pecora produced a double-double of 11 assists and 11 digs, while Clarise Steiner and Lauren Kilroy chipped in with a team-best 12 digs apiece.

Gabrielle Hegedus collected three kills and a pair of aces in the victory, while Alicia Blanco added one kill and Ivanna Zhang contributed an assist and one ace.
