Women’s Volleyball Wins Third Straight #SkylineWVB Contest

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Sarah Lawrence women's volleyball team won its third consecutive Skyline contest Wednesday, defeating Old Westbury in straight sets at Campbell Sports Center.

Sarah Lawrence, coming off league wins over Purchase and St. Joseph's Brooklyn, trailed early, 6-3, but scored five straight points to take the lead. Leading the set, 11-9, the Gryphons pulled away with an 8-0 run en route to winning the frame, 25-17.

In the second set, the two teams traded points throughout for a 20-20 score. Old Westbury, picked one spot ahead of the Gryphons in the Skyline Preseason Poll, took a 21-20 lead on an error. Sarah Lawrence scored the final five points of the game, winning 25-21 and taking a 2-0 series advantage.

Sarah Lawrence held off a late rally from Old Westbury in the final frame. Trailing 23-15, the Panthers scored nine unanswered points to take a 24-23 edge. Following a timeout, the Gryphons responded with three straight points to win the set and secure the series sweep.

Melanie Coleman posted a match-best 11 kills, while Clarise Steiner and Davis Mathis added nine kills apiece. Isabel Pecora dished out 28 assists, while Steiner paced Sarah Lawrence with 28 digs. The rookie has five matches of 20 or more digs this season.

The victory was home win No. 7, tying the school record for home victories in a season. Sarah Lawrence has won five of its last six meetings with the Panthers.
