Jamaleddine, Torres Lead Gryphons to 87-82 Win Over Stevenson

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Omar Jamaleddine and Chris Torres each posted season-highs in points Sunday to lead Sarah Lawrence to an 87-82 victory over Stevenson University at Campbell Sports Center. The victory is the Gryphons' first-ever win over the Mustangs and their first-ever over an opponent from thr MAC Commonwealth Conference.

TOP GRYPHON PERFORMERS
Jamaleddine finished with a game-high 27 points, knocking down six field goals, including four from beyond the arc. The sophomore also went 11-of-12 from the free throw line. In addition, Jamaleddine grabbed nine rebounds while handing out three assists.

Torres, in his first career start, had his best outing of his rookie campaign, finishing with 22 points. The first-year knocked down 7-of-9 field goal attempts, highlighted by five 3-pointers.

BJ Sanders reached double-figures, finishing with 12 points (6-7 FG) and eight rebounds. The senior also dished out a season-high five assists.

Isaiah Pean and Justin Bailey scored eight points apiece, while Luke O'Connor added five. Daniel Golub contributed three points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals, while Enike Anyia chipped in a basket, four boards and five assists.

Sarah Lawrence turned in a strong offensive performance, leading wire-to-wire to improve to 4-2 overall, its best start in program history.  

The Gryphons started fast, scoring the game's first eight points, hitting seven of their first eight shots to open up an 18-3 lead with 15:05 remaining in the half. Sarah Lawrence shot the ball well in the opening frame, shooting 61-percent from the field and 63-percent from downtown to lead 47-36 at halftime.

Jamaleddine and Torres set the tone offensively for the Gryphons, combining to score 31 points on 11-of-16 shooting, highlighted by eight 3-pointers.

Sarah Lawrence continued its hot shooting in the second half, building up a 67-50 lead with 11:33 to play, its largest margin of the afternoon.

Stevenson hung around, cutting the deficit to single digits on several occasions in the final two minutes, but Sarah Lawrence held off the comeback bid to secure the non-conference victory.

Overall, Sarah Lawrence shot 59-percent for the game, its second-best shooting performance in team history.

Sarah Lawrence continues to play its best ball at home, improving to 3-0 on Noyes Court this season. The Gryphons are averaging 91.3 points and are outscoring opponents by 16.
