Yeshiva Gets Past Men’s Basketball on Senior Day

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The playoff-bound Sarah Lawrence men's basketball team suffered a 70-55 loss Sunday to first-place Yeshiva at Campbell Sports Center.

TOP GRYPHON PERFORMERS
BJ Sanders posted a double-double, scoring 24 points (12-18 FG) while grabbing a game-best 12 rebounds.

Enike Anyia finished with 12 points, six rebounds and two steals, while Omar Jamaleddine recorded 11 points, eight boards, two assists and three steals.

Austin Jones contributed five points and a team-high four assists in the loss.

Yeshiva, who entered the day winners of 12 straight games, used a strong second half push, as the Maccabees looked to avenge a 91-88 loss to the Gryphons in the conference opener.

Yeshiva, the defending conference champions, led by as much as 12 (28-16) in the opening half. Sarah Lawrence chipped away at the deficit before halftime, cutting the margin to single digits to trail 32-26 at intermission.

The Gryphons battled back in the second half to tie the game 34-34 with 18:01 left to play. The two teams exchanged baskets, as a layup from Jones gave Sarah Lawrence a 49-47 edge with 10:24 remaining.

The Maccabees pulled away, scoring 15 straight points, going on to outscore the Gryphons 23-6 the rest of the way to secure the win.

Before the game, Sarah Lawrence Athletics and the men's basketball program honored its 2019 senior class of Jones and Gabriel Eng.

Sarah Lawrence, who has locked up a spot in the Skyline Tournament for the first time in school history, returns to the floor Wednesday (Feb. 6) for its regular season home finale against Mount Saint Mary. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
