NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Sarah Lawrence softball team earned its first-ever victory over defending league champion Mount Saint Mary Thursday at MSMC Softball Field. The Gryphons lost the first game, 6-1, but rallied to defeat the Knights by an 8-2 in the nightcap.

Sarah Lawrence opened the game with one run, thanks to a RBI groundout from
Karissa McAuley.
Mount Saint Mary tied the game in the third inning with a run, and pulled away with four more in the fourth inning and one more in the fifth to secure the win.

Sarah Lawrence got the bats going to begin game two, combining to score eight runs through the first two innings of action. The Gryphons plated five runs in the opening frame, fueled by RBIs by
Mackenzie Mindish,
Mikayla Cunningham and
Tiffany McBrayer, while taking advantage of a pair of errors by the Knights. In the second inning, Mindish,
Baylie Petit and
Alexa Zartman-Ball each drove in a run to make it an 8-0 score.
Mount Saint Mary cut into the margin in the fifth inning with a run and scored another in the sixth.
Bailey Nguyen won her third consecutive league contest in the circle for her fifth win of the season. The rookie tossed a complete game, limiting the Knights to four hits while striking out 10 batters. Nguyen had a perfect game through the first four innings of play.
The victory over Mount Saint Mary snapped an 11-game losing streak over the conference foe.
