Women’s Volleyball Wins League Opener in Straight Sets

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The red-hot Sarah Lawrence College women's volleyball team won its conference opening match Thursday, defeating Yeshiva University in straight sets at Campbell Sports Center. With the win, the Gryphons improve to 7-1 overall with a 1-0 mark in conference play.

TOP GRYPHON PERFORMERS
Melanie Coleman finished with a match-high 11 points, posting four kills and seven aces. Gabrielle Hegedus and Clarise Steiner each posted season-highs in aces (8), while Isabel Pecora dished out a match-best 14 assists. Lauren Kilroy posted a match-high five kills, while Davis Mathis contributed four kills with a hitting percentage of .444.

Sarah Lawrence finished with 31 aces overall in the match, a season-high and the second-most recorded in team history.

RECAP
It was victory No. 7 for the Gryphons, surpassing last season's win total through eight contests with 21 matches remaining in the regular season. The win was the Gryphons' third straight victory and the fifth consecutive win over the Maccabees.

Sarah Lawrence won all three sets convincingly, taking the opening game, 25-9, while winning the second set by a 25-10 score and completing the sweep with a 25-4 decision in the final game.

The Gryphons outproduced the Maccabees in points (48-5), kills (17-3) and aces (31-1) in the victory.

UP NEXT
Sarah Lawrence will host its final tri-match of the year Saturday (Sept. 21), taking on Brooklyn and Rutgers-Newark at Campbell Sports Center. The Gryphons will hold their rematch with the Bulldogs at 11 a.m., and conclude with the Scarlet Raiders at 3 p.m.
