Anyia Scores Season-High 34 in 91-78 Road Win at Maritime

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – Enike Anyia scored a season-high 34 points Tuesday to power the Sarah Lawrence men's basketball team to a 91-78 win over Maritime. It is the Gryphons' first-ever win at Riesenberg Gymnasium.

TOP GRYPHON PERFORMERS
Anyia posted his second 30-point outing of the season, shooting 13-for-15 from the field (86.7%). The junior also grabbed nine rebounds.

Omar Jamaleddine posted his fourth straight double-double, finishing with 28 points, 15 rebounds, seven assists and two steals.

Chris Torres scored eight points, while BJ Sanders contributed 10 points and nine rebounds in the contest. Sanders continues to chip away towards 1,000 points, currently standing with 971.

Jelani Jackson knocked down a 3-pointer, while Justin Bailey hit both of his field goal attempts in the win.

Sarah Lawrence, coming off a thrilling 79-73 overtime victory over Purchase, got off to a strong start, shooting 50-percent from the field in the opening frame, while using its size advantage to outrebound the Privateers, 28-11.

The Gryphons' frontcourt of Anyia (17), Jamaleddine (13) and Sanders (8) paved the way offensively, as SLC led by as much as 17 (44-27) in the stanza. However, Maritime finished the half on a 7-0 run to make it a 44-34 score at intermission.

Maritime stormed back to start the second half, using an 11-3 run to make it a one-possession game (47-45) with 16:49 to play. SLC weathered the storm, using a 12-4 spurt to push the lead back to double figures (59-49), going on to outscore the Privateers 22-11 over 11:28, capped off by a 7-0 run, to make it a 69-56 advantage.

The Privateers did not go away, scoring nine unanswered points to shrink the margin to four (69-65) with 5:15 remaining.

SLC put the game away, scoring six straight points to expand the lead to double-digits, while hitting free throws down the stretch to secure the victory.

After dropping its first two league contests, SLC has posted back-to-back victories to improve to 2-2 in conference play.
