Sanders Reaches 1,000 Career Points; Gryphons Fall to FSC in OT, 83-77

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – Sarah Lawrence senior BJ Sanders reached 1,000 career points on Saturday in the Gryphons' 83-77 overtime loss to defending conference champion Farmingdale State at Nold Hall.

TOP GRYPHON PERFORMERS
Sanders finished with 13 points in the contest, becoming the third Gryphon in program history to eclipse 1,000 career points, joining Graham Gilleran and teammate Enike Anyia. Sanders now has 1,001 career points, tied with Gilleran for the second most all-time.

Anyia had a strong outing, posting game-highs in points (26) and rebounds (11). The junior also handed out three assists.

Omar Jamaleddine finished with 17 points, seven rebounds and two assists, while Chris Torres contributed eight points, four boards and a pair of helpers. Isaiah Pean chipped in with five points, three rebounds and three assists, while Andrew Varoli knocked down a pair of 3-pointers in the loss.

Sarah Lawrence held a 65-57 lead over the reigning champions with 3:45 remaining in the contest, but a furious comeback from the Rams over the final minutes sent the game to overtime with a tied score of 69-69.

FSC opened overtime with five straight points from Ryan Kennedy. SLC closed within three (77-74) with 1:33 remaining, but the Rams responded with a pair of free throws and a field goal to take a seven-point lead (81-74), going on to secure the home victory.

SLC got off to a strong start in the contest. Early in the first half, tied at 16-16, the Gryphons went on a 15-4 run to open up a 32-21 advantage. The Rams chipped away at the margin, outscoring SLC 13-7 over the final 3:34 of the frame to trail 39-34 at intermission.

SLC opened up a 45-37 advantage to begin the second half, but a 6-0 run from FSC made it a one-possession game with 14:19 to play.

Holding a one-point lead, 56-55, with 7:53 remaining, SLC expanded its lead with a 9-2 spurt to stay in front, 65-57. The Rams used a 12-2 run to tie the contest, 67-67, with 33 seconds to play. Following a SLC foul, FSC hit a pair of free throws to take a two-point lead with 12 seconds remaining. The Gryphons called a timeout to set up a play, and executed, as Anyia hit a layup with four seconds left to knot the contest at 69. FSC had a look as time expired, but were unable to convert, sending the contest to overtime.
